Link indexing FAQ
Published · By IndexChex
In brief
Most link indexing questions come down to three points: check whether a link page is indexed before paying to submit it, use standard submission unless a deadline justifies instant mode, and re-check after 1 to 5 days. Submission gets a page crawled; whether it is indexed remains Google's decision.
These answers summarize the longer entries on this site. For the most common job, start with how to index guest post backlinks. Teams handling many clients should read the agency indexing workflow. The worked prices come from the publisher's tool, described on IndexChex for link indexing.
Cases where a crawl request cannot help, such as noindex pages or deleted links, are collected in when not to use an indexer. Background definitions are on the backlink indexing wiki.
Reading the answers
The answers above are short by design. Each one points to a longer entry where the reasoning, the workflow and the credit arithmetic are laid out for a specific link type. Two ideas run through all of them. First, an index check is the cheapest step and should come before any submission, because it removes pages that need nothing. Second, submission solves discovery only: if Google has crawled a page and declined to keep it, sending it again rarely changes the outcome, and the effort is better spent on the page itself or on a different host.
Teams that process links every week usually automate both steps; automating indexing with an API describes that setup.
Questions and answers
Why aren't my backlinks indexed?
The page carrying the link has either not been discovered by Google, or Google crawled it and chose not to keep it. Discovery problems respond to submission; quality, duplicate and noindex problems do not.
Should I check before submitting?
Yes. A share of any link batch is usually indexed already. An index check costs 1 credit per URL in IndexChex, the same as a standard submission, and it tells you which URLs actually need one.
How long should I wait before submitting a new link?
About a week for links on established sites. Strong hosts often get pages indexed without help in that time.
Standard or instant mode?
Standard (1 credit per URL) for nearly everything. Instant (60 credits per URL) for a few URLs with a same-day deadline, such as an original press release. IndexChex's weekly measurements (October 2026) average 85%+ indexation for standard mode and 95%+ within 5 to 10 minutes for instant mode.
When should I use drip feed?
For large batches, such as hundreds of citations or tier 2 links, where you would rather spread crawling over 1 to 30 days than send it all at once. Drip jobs accept up to 25,000 URLs.
When should I re-check?
1 to 5 days after submission. IndexChex can schedule the re-check automatically when you submit, except on drip jobs.
What if a link still isn't indexed after resubmitting?
Stop spending credits on it. Two failed cycles usually mean a quality, duplicate or host problem, not a discovery problem.
Does any indexer guarantee indexing?
No honest one does. IndexChex guarantees that Googlebot crawls submitted URLs and does not refund credits for URLs Google declines to index.
Can I use Google's Indexing API for backlinks?
No. Google restricts the Indexing API to job-posting and livestream pages, and it only works for sites you own. IndexChex does not use it.
Does getting a link indexed make it safe?
No. Indexing lets Google see a link; it does not change how Google's spam policies evaluate it. Paid links that pass ranking credit remain link spam whether indexed or not.
